A Valentine’s Day to Remember at Peach Grove House
Hello, dear friends! As Valentine’s Day approaches, I find myself reflecting on the serendipitous journey that led Keith and me to the enchanting Peach Grove House. The moment we first stepped into this historic 1850s Greek Revival home, we were captivated by its timeless elegance and rich history. The intricate details, from the original wide plank wood floors to the faux ashler marble walls painted by artist Charles Clinton, spoke to us deeply. We knew instantly that this was the place; it was destined to be part of our story.
Nestled amidst 210 acres of picturesque farmland, Peach Grove House offers sweeping views that evoke a sense of peace and tranquility. The property’s blend of 19th-century craftsmanship and modern comforts creates an atmosphere where the past and present harmoniously coexist. It’s a place where sophisticated living never goes out of style.
Beyond the house itself, the charming town of Warwick, NY, has captured our hearts. With its vibrant community and rich history, Warwick offers a plethora of activities and attractions. From exploring local wineries and orchards to enjoying the arts at the Pacem in Terris Sculpture Garden, there’s always something to delight in. The town’s unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness makes it a place we’re proud to call home.
In every corner of Peach Grove House and throughout Warwick, we’ve found a love that continues to grow, making this Valentine’s season all the more special.
Built in 1850 by Colonel William F. Wheeler as a wedding gift for his son Isaac Van Duzer Wheeler and his bride, Phebe A. Bull, Peach Grove House stands as a testament to timeless elegance and rich history. Colonel Wheeler selected one of Warwick’s most sophisticated builders, Mr. Brookes Parmley, to construct this Greek Revival mansion. Notably, it was among the first homes in the Hudson Valley to feature electricity and running water, earning the Grand Prize at the 1850 Orange County Fair. Many of its original features remain intact today.
Reflecting on this history fills me with a profound sense of connection to the past. Knowing that Peach Grove House was built as a labor of love, a father’s heartfelt gift to his son and new daughter-in-law, adds a layer of romance and significance to every corner of this home. It’s a privilege to continue the legacy of love and hospitality that Colonel Wheeler envisioned so many years ago.
